A little About Evsars Chows
In New Zealand

"Evsars Kennel" was started in 1986 in the USA with my first chow purchasing. As with most people in wanting a dog, usally they just think they only want a pet companion. Sometimes this thought can change. That was my thoughts at that time too. Sasha was my first chow getting in the USA. She was a red ruff coat, which had been shown by her breeder. The breeder was wishing for Sasha to still be shown by herself or by me at the time in getting. I thought that would be fine if she showed her, I really just wanted Sasha as a pet companion. I got hooked with watching at the side lines cheering Sasha on. Off to handling classes was my next achievement to learn the ropes in showing dogs. When I started show handling classes, a very dear family having chows from "Lohan Chows" took me under their wing with help and becoming mentors to me in lots of knowledge learning over the years. I thank you so much Linda, Glen & Angel for all your help, support & knowledge receiving over the years while in the USA, also our dear freindship & love of the breed we still share today.

Once getting a chow I was told, a person will most all the time find one is not enough. That had turned out for me too. This breed is so unique with its devoted loyalty and self sufficient aloof nature. You hardly know they are there with the breed being very independant. Love and affection is all they tend to want from us with their nature. They are very much like a cat in nature compared to a dog.

In 1991 I moved to New Zealand. At that time it was a sad time prior to the move in knowing I was going to have to place my dogs in new homes with there being no quarantine facilities in New Zealand at that time. I did find lovely people in homes for the dogs to go to and I thank them so much in keeping in contact with me over the years. You will know who you are.

Once in New Zealand Blackie & husband Skip Harland "Shah Rand" chows invited me to join the New Zealand Chow Chow Club when meeting them at a dog show, thinking I would get another chow. I have taken office roles of President, Vice President, Newsletter editor & long time Secretary/Treasurer holding this office for many years. I still to this day am a member of  the NZ Chow Chow Club with alot of New Zealand's chow history having record of. I also am a member of the Asian Breeds Club, I have had Vice President and Treasurer roles in office. I am also on the Auckland Non Sporting/Utility committee.

It was a year in New Zealand before getting another chow. Saracen "Su-Sar Sarecen" a 7 year old male chow came into my life, with his breeder Eilleen Hallett "Su-Sar" chows contacting me in hearing I was looking for a chow. It was as if I knew Saracen as a puppy with him bonding to me when we met. The first NZ Chow Chow Show taking him to, he went Best In Show in 1992. You can read more about Saracen on his page.

Next Sasha "Sasha Of Gebar" was to be a part of "Evsars" New Zealand Chows. Saracen's breeder & myself felt Saracen was of exceptional qualities and should be a dad. Finding the right bitch? A bitch owned by Barbara James & Gerry Carmichael "Gebar"chows "Ch Chinju Barbie Doll" was a thought, breeders John & Kaye Male "Chinju" chows. A daughter from this mating I kept and her name was to be Sasha "Sasha Of Gebar". I thought the name fit, as to remind me of my first chow getting in the USA. Thank you Barbara & Gerry for the opportunity in using Saracen at stud. Sasha has produced some lovely chows with us proud of and Sasha was also the first chow in New Zealand to produce Cream chows. You can read more about Sasha on her page.

From this above Evsars Chows was started in New Zealand and has flourished to date with some nice examples of the breed in qualities having.

To all that have been a part of "Evsars" from past to present, Thank you for your support, encouragement and true friendship we share with the breed!!
