In the mid 1950's "Omar's Mandarine" & "Omar's Ruby Wun" from the UK was imported by Mr & Mrs Nicholson to New Zealand. A third dog in the 1960's was to come in also by the Nicholson's. This will be a part of New Zealand's beginning history of Chow Chow introduced to this country, with later dogs adding to New Zealand's Chow history over the years.

In the late 1960's thru 1980's Pam Wrench "Osuno" Kennel played a big part in adding new bloodlines with Chow imports from "Zebedee" kennel from Australia and from "Tanlap", "Minhow" & "Chramcroft" kennels from th UK over this period of time.

In 1969 "NZ Ch Baytor Ah Shau"(Imp UK) was imported by Bonnie Pelikan and later on was sold in 1973 to Blackie Harland and husband Skip. Blackie in the 1970's was one of the founder members to the NZ Chow Chow Club soon to become recognized at that time, also over the years she has become a life member to the NZ Chow Chow Club..

1970's & 1980's other "Baytor" dogs imported. "Baytor Blue Feathers" (Imp UK) blue/bitch - Mrs. M. Johns "Baytor Blue Ribbon" ( Imp UK) blue/bitch - Mrs. P. Dalmau "Baytor Firestorm" (Imp UK) red/dog - Measdames M & Johns "Baytor Midnight Lullaby" (Imp UK) black/bitch - Mr. M. D. Williams
1980's a "Towmena" UK dog was imported "NZ Ch Towmena Timothy" (Imp UK) red/dog - Mr. J. Male
These dogs above & progeny produced being shown in the 60's &70's, at all breeds shows will be the foundation of the NZ Chow Chow Club with 22 members at that time. Next the club was to be recognised by the New Zealand Kennel Club in October of 1974. The NZ Chow Chow Clubs first Championship show was held in 1980, with being granted by NZKC. Over the years the club grew with memberships reaching over 100 members in the 1990's. Further import's also have come into the country from the USA, UK & Australia. To date alot of the clubs original members & their dogs have passed away in the 2000's.
Coat types in the Chow Chow ?? In New Zealand we do have both Ruff (Long) coat and Smooth (Short) coat variety. Ruff coat type is more popular here in showing.

Colours the Chow Chow come in ?? In New Zealand we have all five colours Red, Black, Blue, Fawn, Cream
